How to Beat the Bookies!!!

I have spent years trying to figure out ways of winning money and beating the bookies and I'm now at a stage where I believe in my theories and have enjoyed an increasing bank balance because of it.  The most important thing to remember however when betting that if you cannot afford it, don't do it!

Below you will find my advice and theories on how to beat the bookies;

FOLLOWING SPECIFIC HORSES

I read a book every 6 months or so written by Mark Howard (One Jump Ahead and Ahead On The Flat).  The book is extremely informative and includes interviews from various trainers/owners plus experts like Anthony Bromley and Declan Phelan.  The book also includes Mark's Top 40 To Follow (Please go to his website and have a look around, his racing diary is also a great read and is updated regularly - www.mhpublications.co.uk)

I follow all the horses in the Top 40, all trainers horses to follow and any horses throughout the book that is talked of highly or has something that little bit different written (ie.  If a trainer rarely says he/she likes a horse a lot but does to a couple, follow them).  My personal favourite section is Declan Phelan's Irish Pointers, a great read.

From this I set out a set amount to put on each horse based on their evening before/early morning prices.  I have set my stakes out in a way that would never trouble me financially should the horses not win but can provide a nice profit should they do so.  The theory I use is as follows;

Price                      Stake

4/6 or shorter      NO BET
8/11 - 11/8            £30 Double if another horse is out of the book or treble if 3 horses are out of the book, if alone then NO BET
6/4 - 9/4                £30 Win Bet
5/2 - 5/1                £20 Win Bet
6/1 - 9/1                £15 Win Bet
10/1 - 15/1            £10 Win Bet
16/1 upwards       £5 Win Bet

Since October 2014 using the above theory I have made a profit of £1233.99 as at end of November 2015.

HANDICAP HORSES

One of my favourite theories are first time handicap horses that are below 5/1.  I have followed this method for years and it has come off on an estimated 75% basis.  There are certain terms that must be adhered to as follows;

  • First time handicap horse that has finished in 6th place or worse in its' 3 or 4 maiden races
  • It is 5/1 or less with all available bookmakers
  • It is the only horse in the race less than 14/1 that has similar credentials

FREE BETS

Believe it or not bookmakers have some amazing New Account offers with the likes of Bet365 offering up to £200 Free Bet.  For the majority of sites all you have to do is deposit, place your bet and you will receive a free bet immediately or just after your bet has been settled.  I took advantage of free bets when the Cheltenham Festival came around.  I had horses in pretty much every race and after opening accounts with pretty much all available bookmakers I saved hundreds of pounds that I was expecting to spend.  The fact that I won a fair few hundred quid anyway made Cheltenham one of the most successful festivals ever.  There are a few "small print" factors with some free bets that you just need to be careful of and below I have made notes on who has a clause in their terms and conditions;

Bet365 - Great offer as they will match your first deposit up to a whopping £200 however before making a withdrawal you must have settled bets to the value of three times your qualifying deposit (so if you deposit £20 and take advantage of the offer, you must spend £60 in bets before you can withdraw the money in your account.

Betfair - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply deposit and bet £10, receive a free £30 bet to spend as you like.

Coral - All you have to do with Coral is deposit and bet £5 and they will give you £20 in free bets, the one thing you have to watch out for here is the free bets come as four sets of £5, however you can place all four free bets on the same event so there really isn't much of a catch with this one.

Sky Bet - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply deposit and bet £5, receive a free £20 bet to spend as you like.

Race Bets - They will match your first bet up to £50, input the bonus code "WELCOME" after you have placed your first bet and you will receive your free bet.  You must have settled bets to the value of five times your bonus amount before you can withdraw bonus money from your account.

Will Hill - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply open you account using promo code "F20", deposit and place a £10 bet and receive a free £20 bet to spend as you like.

10 Bet - They will match 50% of your first deposit up to a whopping £200 however before making a withdrawal you must have settled bets to the value of five times your qualifying deposit and bonus (so if you deposit £200 and take advantage of the offer, you must spend £1500 before you can withdraw the money in your account.

Bet Bright - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply deposit and bet £30, receive a free £30 bet to spend as you like.

Bet Victor - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply deposit and bet £25, receive a free £25 bet to spend as you like.

Sporting Bet - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply deposit and bet £25, receive a free £25 bet to spend as you like.

Paddy Power - There really isn't any catches with this one, simply deposit and bet £10, receive a free £30 bet to spend as you like.
